Newcomer of the Year (Dirigat)

Robin Ticciati (BR-Chor/ Bamberger SO/ Alice Coote)

Robin Ticciati is Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Bamberger Symphoniker – Bayerische Staatsphilharmonie. Highlights among future guest appearances include debuts with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks Munich, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. He will also return to the London Symphony Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Swedish Radio Symphony, Filarmonica della Scala and Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Robin Ticciati balances orchestral engagements with extensive work in the opera house. In 2011 alone he is conducting Don Giovanni at Glyndebourne, Nozze di Figaro at the Salzburg Festival, and Hansel and Gretel for his Metropolitan Opera New York debut. Future plans include new productions of Eugene Onegin at the Royal Opera House London, Peter Grimes for his debut at La Scala Milan, Nozze di Figaro at Glyndebourne and Don Giovanni at Opernhaus Zürich and in July 2011, he was appointed Music Director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera from January 2014. Past operatic projects include Die Fledermaus, Macbeth, and Jenufa as Music Director of Glyndebourne on Tour, Così fan tutte and Hansel & Gretel at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and Mozart’s Il Sogno di Scipione for his Salzburg Festival debut in 2006.
Born in London, Robin Ticciati is a violinist, pianist and percussionist by training. He was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain when he turned to conducting, aged 15, under the guidance of Sir Colin Davis and Sir Simon Rattle.
