Newcomer of the Year (Cello)

Felix Broede

Maximilian Hornung

With "Jump", young cellist Maximilian Hornung has released a most unusual CD, bringing him the "Echo Klassik" prize as Young Artist of the Year (Cello). The album contains little pieces ranging from Scriabin's beautiful, dreamy Romance through Bach's famous Air, the Debussy Nocturne, Schubert's Moments musicaux and Prayer by Ernest Bloch. Many of the works are heard in Hornung's own arrangements for cello and piano, among them a complete cycle, Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, and Chaplin's well-known Limelight. The result is a varied record full of lovely melodies by a young but "brilliant" (FAZ) cellist. The first solo cello of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra is accompanied by the acclaimed Georgian pianist Milana Chernyavska.
